The Piedmont Manufacturing Company Footbridge and the dam were built to support the mills of the Piedmont Manufacturing Company Mills, which was built between 1876 and 1980. The Company was a National Historic Landmark until the loss of the mill due to fire in the 1983.

What are its challenges?

Due to lack of maintenance since the 1983 fire, the Piedmont Manufacturing Company Footbridge has been affected with severe deterioration. The iron of the structure has rusted and the wooden flooring is gone.
